Principal’s welcome
If you have ever visited our school, you will know that there is something delightfully special about it from the moment you walk through the gates. The expansive tree-lined grounds make you feel like you’ve stepped out of the inner-city hum and back into nature.
No matter what time of day or what day of the week, you will find a welcoming and vibrant community where our students are happily engaged in their learning, collaborating on learning together or simply playing together in the yard.
We pride ourselves on promoting an unrelenting focus on building positive and caring relationships and central to all our work is student wellbeing and engagement. This is supported by a team-teaching structure and open plan learning spaces which allow students the opportunity to connect and build relationships with multiple staff.
Strongly supported by the school and broader community, is the seamless focus on language education. From the long-running and nation-leading Chinese Bilingual Model to our Vietnamese Immersion Pathway or the many languages spoken by our school community, our motto, ‘Many languages – one voice’ encapsulates the school’s commitment to languages.
Our curriculum caters to the whole child, with an approach that is research-based and educationally sound. We are welcoming to all, inclusive, and celebrate diversity. Our practices encourage openness and innovation, welcoming new ideas and fresh perspectives.
We actively seek ways to enhance student learning by partnering with families and we encourage community involvement. It’s a rare day that you won’t find parents or carers volunteering at the school. They may be helping in the classroom, gardening, cooking with our students, making costumes, having an official committee meeting or just catching up in the after school drop off in the morning.
Our 2022 – 2026 Strategic Plan, alongside our Vision, Purpose, Mission and Values reflect a climate of trust and a passion for the welfare of the students and their learning.
Our signature colour – orange – is playful, inspiring and joyful. It represents ‘harmony,’ a nod to the diverse nature of our vibrant community.
It is my absolute pleasure to be the Principal of Richmond West Primary School – I have the best job in the world!
